Dermatologist Focuses on Physical and Emotional Health

Having a skin condition is hard for anyone, especially a 3-year-old child. So when Lisa Thibodeau’s son, Mace, had a skin disease that hadn’t improved in a year, she asked her pediatrician to recommend a good dermatologist. Christine Kilcline, M.D., of Solano Dermatology Associates is now one of Mace’s favorite people.

Mace had molluscum contagiosum, a virus that appears as wart-like growths on the skin. "I was told that in most cases, molluscum goes away when the child’s body recognizes it’s a virus that needs to be fought," says Thibodeau. "Mace’s condition wasn’t getting any better, and he was very uncomfortable when the small bumps on his skin were inflamed. I even had to hold him out of swimming lessons, since the condition is contagious."

Thibodeau says Mace hasn’t always liked doctors, but he hit it off right away with "Dr. Crissy." Dr. Kilcline was very gentle and thorough and let Mace and his mother ask plenty of questions. After taking medication twice a day and using a cream, Mace’s condition has improved. Thibodeau thinks swimming lessons may even be in the cards this summer.

"Dr. Kilcline made me feel very comfortable and calm," says Thibodeau. "She always championed Mace’s best interests above all else."

    Supporting Patients
Dr. Kilcline’s interest in medicine was sparked in high school when a young cousin was treated for a serious illness. She learned how important it was for a doctor to be compassionate and proactive and to help patients in any way possible. She originally chose pediatrics as her specialty, but ultimately decided dermatology was a better fit.

"Skin diseases profoundly affect people on both a physical and emotional level, since they can’t be hidden easily," says Dr. Kilcline. "I was attracted to dermatology because of that, plus the scientific and surgical aspects."

Dr. Kilcline likes forming relationships with patients and serving as their confidant. She’s also happy to see their conditions improve. Outside of work, she’s busy playing mom to her 1-year-old daughter, who, like her, enjoys outdoor activities.

Dr. Kilcline, who also speaks Spanish, is a member of Sutter Regional Medical Foundation’s Community Physician Network. Her Vallejo office is located at 2290 Sacramento Street. You can reach her at 707-643-5785.
